‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ rapper Coolio has died


Coolio, the rapper best known for his iconic single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” has died aged 59.

TMZ broke the news citing the rapper’s longtime manager. They report that Coolio died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday, September 29. At the time of his death, he was staying with a friend, according to his manager. The rapper went to the bathroom and never came back. His body was later found lying on the ground. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Although the rapper has had several hit songs throughout his career, such as “Fantastic Voyage” and “1,2,3,4 (Sumpin’ New)”, his most notable song is “Gangsta’s Paradise” by 1995. The song, which appeared on the film’s soundtrack Dangerous spirits with Michelle Pfeiffer, spent three weeks at No. 1 and won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. It was also parodied by “Weird Al” Yankovic as “Amish Paradise”.

If you grew up watching Nickelodeon, you might also remember that he wrote and performed the theme song for Kenan and Kel. During his career he released eight studio albums with his latest being bottom 2 top in 2009.

Two weeks before his death, Coolio performed at the 2022 Riot Fest in Chicago.
