Sony has offered new details on the new PlayStation VR 2, which will include eye tracking, 4K HDR, single cord setup, and more.
Sony has offered new details on the new title Playstation vr 2. The headset will be on par with the best VR headsets on the market and even a bit more advanced in some areas, allowing Sony to potentially take VR by the reins of this generation. The original PSVR headset was successful, but was held back by older PS3-era Move controllers and the lack of long-term investment from leading developers. However, it looks like Sony is trying to change the trends with PlayStation VR 2.
After quietly announcing the PSVR 2 in 2021, Sony has remained silent on the future of the device. A number of rumors indicated Sony’s ambition for the headset and Sony’s handful of details seemed to suggest it is betting big on it. With new controllers designed with the headset, the power of the PS5 in mind, and more, Sony looks like it wants to be a serious contender in the VR scene.
That said, Sony took the stage at CES 2022 and wrote a blog post to tell fans what PlayStation VR 2 has in store for them. For starters, the headset will have an OLED display with 4K HDR and feature up to 120Hz for the refresh rate. Sony has also confirmed the rumor that the PSVR 2 will beat Quest 2’s resolution with a whopping 2000 × 2040 pixels per eye. The headset will also include eye tracking, vibration for immersion, and cameras built into the VR headset to eliminate the need for an external camera. Additionally, Sony noted that the PSVR 2 will not be wireless, but will have a simplified single-cord setup.
That said, Sony is clearly aiming to have more than just a watered-down VR headset that can run on consoles. PlayStation VR 2 shows that the company wants to create something that not only delivers a quality VR experience similar to what others do, but also creates additional immersion with video games. Sony also announced a new Horizon game for PlayStation VR 2, which is currently the only known game for the headset.
Some hope to see Half-life: Alyx on PSVR 2, but Sony will likely keep things close to the chest until later in the year. The gaming giant will likely unveil pricing, release date and other games at a PlayStation showcase later this summer, as it is believed. Playstation vr 2 will be released sometime in 2022. At the moment, it looks like it could be something really special.
