Therefore, a team member can be part of different groups within a project team. For example, developers, content creators, social media, and webmasters can be individual teams.

However, one or more members of these teams might belong to different groups such as UI / UX design, blogging, digital marketing, backend troubleshooting, etc.

Groups within a team further organize your team members at a micro-level. Twist allows you to create groups in several ways, here are just a few:

  2. Groups by region like APAC, EMEA, AMER, etc.
  3. Groups by blog, event, relaunch, or design project.
  4. Groups by topics such as smart devices, Windows, macOS and many more.

2. Team chains

In a project team, there can be hundreds of discussions on a variety of topics, bottlenecks, timelines, and bugs. Twist lets you organize all of these chats into channels.

The channels consist of general topics. You need to add your customer, collaborator, or team members to the relevant channels. You can add a channel name and description so that guests or members can easily identify the scope of the channels.

Channels allow your team members to retrieve vital work information without wasting time searching. You have access to all public channels after joining a Twist team.

You can browse the channel list and join the ones you need for work. Twist admins can also create private channels. Private channels will not be visible to everyone. You can only join a private channel if you receive an invitation from the administrator.

3. Threads and messages

Threads or threaded discussions are the new way of targeted communication. You can create different discussion threads for a variety of conversations.

Your customer, team members, or guest collaborators can add texts, files, and images to any wire conversation. Users can also forward certain emails from their inbox to Twist discussion threads.

You can easily locate any information or file from a feed, as feeds are consistently organized across team and team channels. You can easily add team members to your discussion threads to notify them of new discussions or policies.

The feed creator, team admin, or members can move the feed between channels. However, Twist will not allow you to move threads from team to team.

While Twist lets you focus on asynchronous communication, it also has real-time messaging. You can send a text to one or more from the Messages section. You can also send links, photos, and other project files. Email has built-in integration for file hosting servers like OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive.

Once you’ve created a new thread, anyone can start commenting. You will see the Reply section at the bottom of the thread. Comments allow you to tag a specific team member or all feed users.

Comments also introduce a new communication feature, Quick Actions. Quick Actions can let you mention someone in the thread or refer to the conversation in a thread or channel. You can also edit or delete your comments whenever you need to.


Twist has a decent library of fun and engaging emojis. You can use them to show your reaction to any message or threaded conversation.

5. Powerful notifications

Twist gently reminds you of all comments and messages via notifications. You have full control to set up notifications on Twist. Customize your notification settings to stay focused during deep work.

Different notification settings are available for Twist users. Some of the essential notification settings are:

  1. Notice for All threads and messages
  2. Son only inform you exclusively about new threads
  3. @Mentions only notifies you if someone tags you in a thread

You can also program the repeat settings for the whole week for time slots without notification. The app will not send you any notifications. As soon as the scheduled period expires, you will be able to see the latest updates.


6. Forward emails to Twist

Twist is not just a team communication app. You can do a lot of content management, project management and file sharing on this app. You can transfer work-related files and conversations to Twist via Email Transfers. There are dedicated Twist email addresses for each of your groups and discussion threads.

You can find the email address by clicking the ellipsis of any group or discussion thread. If you forward an email to a discussion thread, the content of the email will be displayed as a comment. Then again, if you email a Twist group, you’ll see that a new thread has popped up.

7. Automation and integrations

You can extend the scope of use of Twist by integrating it with your favorite business applications. At present, the application can integrate up to 28 platforms. You can integrate Twist with Google Drive for file sharing, Calendly for calendar management, Asana for project management, etc.


You can use Zapier integrations to automate your team’s communications in Twist. There are also other automation integrations for Twist, such as team recording and automatic reports.
