Several sources report that the Volkswagen Group will officially accept the entry into Formula 1 of Audi and Porsche next week. Strong rumors have been circulating about both brands for months, but it looks like official confirmation will be announced soon.
Press Agency Reuters reports that Volkswagen is expected to give the go-ahead for Audi and Porsche to enter F1 next week. Two sources would have confirmed this news. Earlier, Reuters reported that the deadline for the decision was set for the end of March.
One of the sources said there was a “good chance” the council would approve the plan. Volkswagen itself declined to comment. The news was also reported earlier this month by Business Intern.
Porsche cooperation with Red Bull
There has been talk for a long time of an entry into F1 by Audi and Porsche. Both brands would partner with existing F1 teams. Porsche would partner with Red Bull, while Audi would partner with McLaren. Audi is rumored to be willing to shell out 500 million euros for a partnership with McLaren. Zak Brown has previously confirmed that the team have held talks with Audi.
The decision comes at a difficult time for Volkswagen, which is grappling with uncertainty about the impact of the war in Ukraine. The situation will be discussed at the meeting.
